Trad music in Edinburgh for ages 9 - 25

Fiddle player at the Easter GaitherinTraditional music is a social thing; it’s all about the taking part. The Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin provides opportunities for young people to get involved in all areas of the tradition, from learning to play instruments, to performance, to technical skills like recording and radio production.

EYG is a volunteer-run organisation that aims to excite, enthuse and inspire as many young people as possible with traditional music. We want to give them the opportunity to get tuition from some of the tradition’s leading lights.

Whether complete beginner, experienced player wanting to try trad for the first time, or an old hand at traditional music, EYG is for anyone. You don’t need to be able to read music or be an expert on learning by ear to come along.

Our flagship event is the Easter Gaitherin, which takes place in the first week of the Easter holidays. The other regular point in our calendar is the Scots Fiddle Festival in November, where EYG runs classes across the weekend. Throughout the rest of the year you will find the Youth Gaitherin organising workshops, performances, and fundraising events. There’s always something happening so contact us to find out more!
