Trad music in Edinburgh for ages 9 - 25
Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin after many successful years is changing management. It is now going to be run by Hands Up for Trad via their TradMusicSchool website. You are not going to notice any difference if you are a regular attendee as Hands Up for Trad love EYG and plan to continue as normal making sure that the event runs for the next 20 years at least! In the next few months this website will disappear and any searches for the site will forward to www.tradmusicschool.scot. Any questions please direct them to Hands Up For Trad.
Traditional music is a social thing; it’s all about the taking part. The Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin provides opportunities for young people to get involved in all areas of the tradition, from learning to play instruments, to performance, to technical skills like recording and radio production.
EYG is a volunteer-run organisation that aims to excite, enthuse and inspire as many young people as possible with traditional music. We want to give them the opportunity to get tuition from some of the tradition’s leading lights.
Whether complete beginner, experienced player wanting to try trad for the first time, or an old hand at traditional music, EYG is for anyone. You don’t need to be able to read music or be an expert on learning by ear to come along.
Our flagship event is the Easter Gaitherin, which takes place in the first week of the Easter holidays. Throughout the rest of the year you will find the Youth Gaitherin organising workshops, performances, and fundraising events, including the famous Big Band. There’s always something happening so contact us to find out more!
