Youth Gaitherin Events

Throughout the year, we have the following workshops:

Craigmillar Ceilidh Club

Every Friday afternoon from 1.15pm – 3.15pm we provide tuition in fiddle, keyboard, guitar, singing and song writing for young people from P5 upwards. Classes cost £1 per week and instruments are available for hire. Priority is given to young people living in the Craigmillar area.

Wester Hailes Music Mondays

Every Monday we provide tuition in fiddle, guitar and tin whistle for young people from P5-S3. Classes cost £1 per week and instruments are available for hire. Priority is given to young people living in the Wester Hailes area.

Trad for Teens

Roughly every two months, we have a whole day event where young people in S1-S6 spend the day working as an ensemble with composer and pianist, James Ross. Learn new tunes and work on harmony and arrangement. This workshop costs £10 for the day. Please remember to bring a packed lunch!

Tutor Training

This is the first in the series and will focus on skills for tutors with a look at teaching techniques, including workshops such as: working with young people with challenging behaviour, child protection, teaching resources, lesson planning, group teaching techniques, and teaching a mixed ability group. The musical sessions will be led by Andy Thorburn and Gillian Frame, both with ample qualifications in working with young people and tutor training, while guest speakers including Neil Gentleman will be in to address more general issues of difficult behaviour and child protection.
