The Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin provides young people with the opportunity to learn and develop skills in traditional music, song and dance.
The Easter Gaitherin is the highlight of the Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin calendar. It takes place from 9.30am-3.43pm each day from Monday 31st March - Thursday 3rd April 2008 at Bruntsfield School. The week culminates with the participants` concert and ceilidh on the Thursday evening. There will also be a tutor concert on the Tuesday evening to raise funds for EYG. The event is for anyone from primary 5 to secondary 6. Beginners are very welcome and those who already play an instrument or sing will also find the 4-day experience very rewarding! You don`t need to be able to read music or to have previous knowledge of traditional music to enjoy the Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin. Most EYG workshops will be taught by ear with the sheet music being handed out at the end of the class.
Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin is fun and friendly. We want to help you to improve your playing and confidence and learn more about Scots music.
Secondary 4, 5, and 6 pupils studying for exams can apply to do mornings, afternoons, just workshops - whatever you feel will fit in with your revision. A "quiet" room can be made available for studying.
Bruntsfield School, Montpelier, Edinburgh (Click here for a map from streetmap.co.uk) is just off Bruntsfield Place. Call 0131 555 6363 for bus information. Snacks and drinks will be on sale at the Gaitherin but participants should bring their own lunch.
It costs £80 to attend the Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin and £60 for a second child from the same family. We can help subsidise a limited number of places. Applications for these spaces will be kept in strict confidence. Please contact us for details.
If you would like to take part in the Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin, please return your completed application form by FRIDAY 14th MARCH 2008, enclosing a stamped Addressed Envelope and full payment.
