Fiddle 2005: 19-21st November, 2004The Youth Gaitherin Runs Workshops and events as part of Scotland's annual Fiddle Festival. Come and learn from many of Scotland's most talented players, eager to pass on their music. This year we are adding the Percussion, Song and "Contemporary Celtic Group" workshops.

Fiddle With Marie Fielding Marie, from Edinburgh, has played, taught and composed for many years. She plays regularly in dance bands and has been involved in more than 25 recordings, playing with many distinguished musicians. She has performed at the Mod, Celtic Connections and gave an excellent recital at Fiddle 2003. At Fiddle 2004, Marie will give insights into bowing and much more! Saturday, 10.00am-11.30am |

Fiddle with Karen Steven Karen Steven is an accomplished fiddler and step dancer. Her distinctive rhythmic style of playing is undoubtedly due to her training as a teacher of highland dancing which, in turn, kindled her interest in step dance. She is an experienced tutor in both fiddle and step dance, teaching regularly at summer schools and festivals both in Scotland and abroad. Karen will be passing on great new tunes and ideas at Fiddle 2004. Saturday 12.00am-1.30pm |

Fiddle With Jenna Reid A young player from the Shetland Isles, Jenna has been making quite a name for herself as part of bands Fiska and Ḍchas. Fiddle with Lori Watson Lori graduated from her Traditional Music Degree at the RSAMD in 2003. Now in her second year of postgraduate study, she is teaching and performing all over Scotland as a soloist and as one of the the Borders Young Fiddlers. Fiddle with Charlie McKerron Charlie will be performing at Fiddle 2004 with Session A9 but is perhaps best known as the fiddle genius of Capercaillie. A prolific composer, many of Charlie's tunes have now become session standards. At Fiddle 2004, Charlie will be looking at traditional and contemporary tunes and building harmonies. Fiddle with Chris Stout Chris has recently shot to fame after releasing his first solo album "The First O' the Darkenin'". Percussion with Iain Copeland A member of the Peatbog Faeries since 1995, Iain is also one of the leading lights on the Scottish Jazz scene. Contemporary Celtic Group with Harris Playfair Harris is known to Borders residents as the head of music at Kelso High School. However he is no ordinary teacher as the member of the Kelso High Celtic band will testify. Originally from Shetland, Harris teaches at Newcastle University's folk and traditional music course, the Border Gathering and Tinto Summer School and will be working on collaborative playing using fresh ideas and new arrangements. A Youth Gaitherin Ticket costs £5 per workshop and it also gives you entry to all 1st floor recitals and talks. You can apply for a special concession if your parent(s) or guardian(s) are on a low income by calling Athole on 0131 466 5305. Ground floor stalls, sessions and the Open Stage are all free and open to all. Under 12s (accompanied by an adult) are admitted free to 1st floor recitals and talks.
