Trad for Teens
These workshops took place for four hours on a Sunday and were aimed at secondary aged students. Participants would meet to form and band and performed at the likes of the Edinburgh Fringe and the Scots Fiddle Festival. Each session cost £10 and these were led by various tutors, including James Ross and Mike Vass. Check the Media page for a recording from Mike’s class!
Junior Band
These workshops took place for four hours on a Sunday and were aimed at primary students aged 10-12 who had been playing for at least two years. They gave participants the opportunity to learn about playing as a band, with a performance at the Edinburgh Fringe. Each session cost £10 and these were led by various tutors, including James Ross and Jenny Gardner.
16-25s
In 2010 EYG started offering workshops aimed at the 16-25 year old crowd. In 2011 these featured 2-day weekend workshops in Composition (with Findlay Napier and James Ross), Performance Skills (with Mark Neal and Adam Sutherland and guest speaker Rob Adams) and Tutor Skills (with Andy Thorburn and Isla Ferguson and guest speaker Stevie Palmer). They cost £30 per session, and the Performance weekend culminated in a gig at the Scots Fiddle Festival. See the Media page for recordings from the weekends.
Wester Hailes Music Mondays
These workshops took place on Monday afternoons (although latterly this changed to Tuesdays) at Murrayburn Primary school. The classes cost £1 per session and featured tutors Jenny Gardner, fiddle; Michelle Burke, voice; and Greig Canning, chanter (instruments provided).
Craigmillar Ceilidh Club
Craigmillar Ceilidh Club was open to anyone from Primary 5 upwards, priority given to those living in Craigmillar. It cost £1 per lesson and took place every Friday afternoon during the school term at Moffat Early Years Centre. The classes (fiddle, guitar, keyboard and song) were tutored by Jenny Gardner, Mairi McFadyen, David Francis and Isla Ferguson, and were very popular! |
